Celebrating the Founding Fathers of Africa on May 25,2017 in the District of Columbia ( Sister City of DC )

Dupont Circle ( Washington DC )- Little Ethiopia's celebrates the 54 Anniversary of the founding of the Organization of African Unity ( now African Union ) by the late Emperor Haile Selassie I and 31 African Heads of States and governments in the capital city of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa on May 25,1963.

A Speech made by Ethiopia's Emperor Haile Selassie I before an historic Charter was signed by 32 African leaders on May 25,1963 " This Conference cannot close without adopting a single charter. We cannot leave here without having created a single African organization possessed of the attributes we have described. If We fail in this, we will have shirked our responsibility to Africa and to the people we lead. If we succeed, then, and only then, will we have justified our presence here."

Africa was divided under  two groups known as the Monrovia and the Casablanca when effots were made to unite the continent by such great African leaders Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana, Modibo Keita of Mali, Gamal Abdul Nasser of Egypt, Sekou Toure of Guinea, Julius Nyerrere of Tanzania, Ben Bella of Algeria,William Tubman of Liberia, Nnamedi AzAzikiwe of Nigeria and others and an agreement was finally reached to establish the Organization of African Unity and charter was signed. It was believed the final  deal was closed by the historic speech made by Emperor Selassie of Ethiopia.
