Landover, Maryland ( Little Ethiopia )-The celebration of Life for the great comedian and civil right activist Dick Gregory was held yesterday at the City of Praise Family Ministries in Landover, MD. Hundreds of people were gathered to honor the civil rights leader who died at the age of 84 last August. Amongst the speakers included Washington DC's mayor Muriel Bowser, Martin Luther King III, Minister Louis Farrakhan and Steve Wonder.

At the celebration Martin Luther King III shared his thoughts on Gregory by saying, “ "He's been a friend to a lot of us. But he was a mentor to me; like a father figure," he added that his father the well known civil rights leader Martin Luther Jr. was assassinated by a gun man when he was 10 and Gregory was his mentor. King also mentioned their involvement in the 1984 Ethiopia Famine.

Gregory and Martin Luther King III visited Ethiopia in December 1984 according to JET and the comedian also introduced a special formula for the victims of famine that was presented to the Ethiopian Medical Team in Addis Ababa.
