EMPEROR HAILE SELASSIE BEFORE THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS - 1936

Washington DC ( Little ethiopia ) -Chris Matthew of MSNBC remarks about Emperor Haile Selassie was wrong, in the previous article he says "  You know, I don't know where to start except I remember Haile Selassie used to get the Lion of Judah and these incredible praises. He seems to believe them,................................For those not aware, Selassie ruled Ethiopia with an iron fist from 1930 to 1974 and, like most African dictators, was accused of committing human rights abuses and ethnic cleansing. He was worshipped by those who subscribed to the Rastafari movement as God and the Messiah alluded to in the Bible.

No question, the emperor was an absolute monarch but not what Matthew alleges him to be in his TV Show posted in the previous article. the Emperor gained prominence from the prophetic speech he made in His Appeal to The League of Nations in June 1936 against the brutal dictator  Benito Mussolini of Fascist Italy who gassed the innocent people of ethiopia in the second attempt to colonize ethiopia after Italy lost a devastating war at adwa in 1896.

Emperor Haile Selassie as the emperor of Ethiopia spoke  at a League of Nations special session which was held on 30 June 1936 in Geneva, Switzerland, to protest Italy’s invasion and occupation of country  on May 5, 1935.  At the end of Emperor Haile Selassie’s stirring speech denouncing the Italian invasion and criticizing the world for standing by, the emperor stated that:“It is us today. It will be you tomorrow.”The international response to the speech did not produce the results that Selassie desired, which was to deny the recognition of the Italian conquest and to be granted a loan for a resistance movement but Europe went under fire within 3 years continuing the 2nd world war that began in ethiopia when italy invaded Ethiopia in October 1935.
